The group’s 2010 kick-off camp, which began June 7 and lasts through Friday, included activities for coaches and parents during its first week at the City of Rockmart’s athletic facilities.
Utilizing both Hilburn Field and Scoggins Hall gymnasium, Rockmart Youth Soccer hosted Jacob Daniel, Georgia Soccer’s director of coaching, to put on a coaches clinic and a parent excellence program.
Georgia Soccer is part of the United States Youth Soccer organization and helps provide many recreational leagues with support for development and growth of the game.
During his time with the coaches, Daniel played instructional games and went through drills that the participants could bring to their players.
He also stressed the importance of getting across the fun of the game to different types of age groups.
He then spoke to a crowd of parents about the relationship they have with their child that plays recreational sports and how they can help them through their involvement with soccer.
Each parent was also given a soccer pocket guide to help them understand not only the rules of the game, but also the players and structure of what is considered the world’s biggest sport.
Around 60 children have participated in the camp, which ran every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
