Former officer sentenced for false statement about illegal sale of weapon

A former Acworth police officer was sentenced to probation Thursday on charges of making false statements to an FBI agent regarding the sale of a short-barreled assault rifle to a former Polk County deputy.

Justin Matthew Dawson, who resigned after charges were filed, was sentenced to one year on probation and will have to surrender his police certification within 30 days.
