A woman suspected in shooting her husband in a February incident has been indicted, but will remain out of jail until her trial.

According to the Polk County District Attorney’s Office, Brenda Lee Craig, 35, of 1050 Elm St., Apt. 2, Rockmart, was indicted by the most recent session of the Polk County Grand Jury.

She is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA) after she allegedly shot her husband with a .380 pistol in their apartment at the Saddlebrook Apartments Weekly Rentals in February.

Her husband, Douglas Craig, survived.

However, Douglas Craig said in a recent interview he remains fearful because Superior Court Judge Michael Murphy released his estranged wife on her own recognizance March 23.

He said he was not notified of her release and received a hand-delivered letter from her the night of her release.

District Attorney Robert Brooks said his office did everything they could to keep Mrs. Craig behind bars until her trial.

“I really can’t comment on a pending case,” Brooks said. “We opposed the bond motion and the judge made his ruling.

“We did everything we could in opposing that.”

Officials said the case will remain in Murphy’s court. An arraignment will be scheduled in four to six weeks and Murphy’s courtroom rules are that trials are scheduled at least 60 days after arraignment.

That means the Craig case would probably be on the November court calendar.
