Michael Lamar Poole, 41, of Leesburg, Ala., was apprehended by law enforcement without incident Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the 1200 block of Shiloh Rd. in Esom Hill.
Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd said Poole’s capture was an ideal situation for police. An anonymous caller had tipped law enforcement to Poole’s whereabouts and police easily trapped him in a house.
Dodd said he had hoped to capture Poole without a car chase or some other unsafe situation.
"He's very dangerous," said Dodd. "He'll do anything to elude capture and this is a very dangerous situation for us and the community."
According to Dodd, the search for Poole had been ongoing. Authorities have been trying to apprehend him for about three months, and there have been a number of chases including Polk Sheriff’s deputies, Polk County police and Cedartown police.
Poole was released from prison in 2007 and was on parole, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He has been convicted of several drug charges in Polk County.
Poole is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, two counts of reckless driving, two counts of driving while license is suspended, conspiracy to commit a crime, manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine, expired tag, no proof of insurance, speeding, no seatbelt, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, methamphetamine possession, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, striking a fixed object, failure to maintain lane and leaving the scene of an accident.
Those charges include previous outstanding warrants and also new charges stemming from a short police chase ending when Poole struck a propane storage tank on Piedmont Highway on Monday, Feb. 8.
The afternoon wreck happened when a police officer spotted Poole putting gas in his car on the side of the road. The officer recognized Poole as being wanted on outstanding warrants and attempted to initiate a stop, Dodd said. Poole attempted to flee in his vehicle and struck the storage tank.
Poole jumped out of the car and fled into nearby woods, according to police. A passenger, Krista Robinson, 30, formerly of Cedartown stayed in the car.
Robinson faces a total of 10 charges, according to Polk County Jail reports.
Some of the charges are from existing, outstanding warrants as well as from the crash, according to Dodd.
Robinson is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, methamphetamine possession, possession of drug-related objects, obstruction of an officer, and two seat belt violations.
No one was injured in the wreck.
