Update: Victim of Hwy. 27 wreck in satisfactory condition

The victim of a wreck caused by a wrong-way driver Monday remains in satisfactory condition at Floyd Medical Center (FMC), according to hospital officials.

James Alex Turner of Rome was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

He was traveling south near Lewis Road when a Chevrolet Astro van, driven by Francisco Gomez Sales, of Cedartown, traveled into the southbound lane going north, police said.

There weren’t any other people in either of the vehicles, Chaffin said.

Sales was taken to the Polk County Jail on charges of DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road, serious injury by vehicle, driving without a license and reckless driving.

Sales remains in the Polk County Jail.

Are sure that this guy is Mexican? Maybe you do not understand that there are more Hispanic people that do not come from Mexico. Also my parents were badly injured a car wreck by a Person that was not Hispanic but also did not have any insurance. As a result of this my mother will not be able to return to work and is barely making ends meet. So you see there are all kinds out there that break the law not just people from other countries.

now i know he should not have been driving while being drunk but thats no reason to put all the shame on the hispanic race. I beleive that PEOPLE not colored beings make mistakes and bad choices. hell most of the people in polk county that are methheads are WHITE. damn dopeheads infesting our streets. your ignorant

Gotta love those Mexicans, I feel for the guy who got hurt, cause you know that piece of garbage didn't have any insurance and uninsured motorist doesn't cover all that well, it should be changed to uninsured mexican. I'm sick and tired of these idiots out on the road causing innocent people to get hurt, they just slap them on the wrist and they are back out there driving again, having a license doesn't matter to them one bit. They can't drive for anything, they can't read english, but this country just hands them everything they want hand over fist. How many people are gonna get hurt or killed before we get them of the roads.
