A passenger involved in Monday’s incident where a vehicle struck a propane storage tank on Piedmont Highway faces a total of 10 charges, according to Polk County Jail reports.
Some of the charges against Krista Robinson, 30, now of South Carolina but formerly of Cedartown, are from existing, outstanding warrants as well as from the crash, according to Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd.
Robinson is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, methamphetamine possession, possession of drug-related objects, obstruction of an officer, and two seat belt violations.
Jail inmate reports don’t show a listing for the vehicle’s driver, Michael Lamar Poole, 41. Police were looking for Poole after he fled the accident scene. Dodd said he faces charges similar to those of Robinson.
Poole was released from prison in 2007 and was currently on parole, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He has been convicted of several drug charges in Polk County.
The afternoon wreck happened when a police officer spotted Poole putting gas in his car on the side of the road. The officer recognized Poole as being wanted on outstanding warrants and attempted to initiate a stop, Dodd said. Poole attempted to flee in his vehicle and struck the storage tank.
Poole jumped out of the car and fled into nearby woods, according to police. Robinson stayed in the car.
No one was injured in the wreck.
According to Dodd, the search for Poole has been an ongoing one. Authorities have been trying to apprehend him for about three months, and there have been a number of chases including Polk Sheriffs, Polk County Police and Cedartown Police.
Dodd said that the police are hoping to avoid any more chases that may endanger others by apprehending Poole without incident.
"He's very dangerous," said Dodd. "He'll do anything to elude capture and this is a very dangerous situation for us and the community."
Anyone with information on Poole's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Department at 770-748-3732.
