A Floyd County man was arrested early Sunday morning after police say he led them on a short chase around the Darlington School campus after officers tried to pull him over for a traffic violation.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Jason Lamar Roberson, 28, of 1398 Abrams Road in Silver Creek, was arrested by Rome police around 12:30 a.m. He was charged with reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving while his license was suspended or revoked, DUI, a vehicle headlight violation, obstruction of law enforcement and two felony counts of possession of dangerous drugs.
Police said a patrol unit attempted to stop Roberson’s vehicle at the intersection of Cave Spring Street and Darlington Drive because he had a malfunctioning headlight. Instead of pulling over, reports stated he attempted to elude officers by speeding up and turning into the Darlington campus, where he allegedly reached speeds faster than 50 mph and drove “in a reckless manner without regard to the safety of others.”
Police said Roberson jumped out of his car and tried to run from officers, but he was caught after a short foot pursuit. Officers said they found a bag of suspected methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
He remained in jail Saturday night on $12,150 bail.
