The playoff-clinching win came last Thursday when they spanked Central-Carroll 7-0 in a Region 6-AAA game.
We played a great game, Cedartown Coach John Sheffield said. I was real pleased with our fundamentals. You can tell that we are working as a team. It was good to see the hard work pay off.
The Lady Bulldogs controlled the game from the start, and that was most evident in the middle of the field.
Anytime you can control the middle of the field you can control the game, Sheffield said. And that is exactly what happened tonight. We dominated the middle of the field.
Offensively, Jessica Jones, Britni Harris and Courtney Martin each had two goals. Casey Harrison added the other goal for Cedartown (4-7, 2-4).
Harris added two assists, Harrison had one and Ana Godoy and Kristin Hardin added one as well.
Defensively, Emily Harrison, Maritza Lopez, Brianda Pineda
and Godoy had strong games and goalie Ashley Benefield earned praise from her coach.
Ashley has been our goalie in the last two games and she has played well, Sheffield said. And tonight was her first shutout. I am proud of her.
The win pushed Cedartown to two games ahead of Central-Carroll (0-6, 0-4) in the region standings. Currently, the Lady Bulldogs are the fourth seed in the region.
We were so disappointed after losing to Cartersville in the final minutes last week, Sheffield said. So I was worried about how we would come out and play against Central. But we knew we had a job to do and if we did it we would be going to the state playoffs for the second year in a row. And thankfully, we did our part and won.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to play today when they host Cass in a region game at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Cedartown will step out of region play to battle their Polk County rival, Rockmart, at 11 a.m.
On Thursday, April 6 the Lady Bulldogs travel to Villa Rica for a non-region game and on Thursday, April 13 Cedartown ends the regular season by traveling to Carrollton for a Region 6-AAA game.
