The fields were soaked from earlier rains, Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Sam Noland said. So weve postponed the game until Friday, March 28.
On Wednesday, the Cedartown teams made up an earlier game that had been postponed against Cass High School. The Lady Bulldogs (1-6 Overall, 0-2 Region 6-AAA) went down in defeat to the Lady Colonels 5-0 and the Bulldogs (3-4, 0-2) fell to the Colonels 2-1.
The Lady Bulldogs played strong in the first half and trailed only 2-0. However, the Lady Colonels scored three goals in the second half to pull away and win the game.
In the boys contest, the Bulldogs battled the Colonels to a 1-1 tie at halftime, however Cass scored the only goal of the second half to win the game.
I thought we played well, Bulldogs Head Coach John Sheffield said. It wasnt a region game and we got a chance to play some of our younger kids.
Sheffield said he felt like his team was in charge during the opening half.
I felt we controlled more of the game than they did in the first half, Sheffield said. We were attacking and getting some good shots on goal.
The Bulldogs goal came off a direct kick when Armando Barrientos played a long ball to Benito Aviles who collected the ball and shot it to the far post for a goal.
With seven minutes left in the first half, Cass scored to tie the game and then five minutes into the second half Cass scored again.
The second half was played even, Sheffield said. We had a couple of good chances to score but failed to.
Defensively, three players stood out in the non-region tilt.
Our marking backs, Ollie Perry and Edmundo Hernandez, played great in this game. Miguel Trejo did a great job on defense as well, Sheffield said.
Despite the loss, Sheffield saw a lot of positives in the game.
Overall, we are playing some good soccer, Sheffield said. We just need to carry that on for 80 minutes. We still have some breakdowns during the game that cost us. It is taking some time but we are coming together as a team.
The Cedartown girls will be playing this week in the annual Rome Tournament.
The Cedartown boys, meanwhile, will play at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Model in a non-region game.
