The schedule worked out pretty good, Loudermilk said. I was one of the coaches who wanted a playoff type system for the last week of the season and we got that, so Im happy.
The playoff type system that Loudermilk is referring to will allow three teams from each sub-region to compete for a chance to go to the Class AAA state playoffs.
The two No. 1 teams from each sub-region will play each other to see who gets the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the state playoffs, Loudermilk said. The No. 2 team from the North will play the No. 3 team from the South and the No. 2 team from the South will play the No. 3 team from the North to decide who is the No. 3 and 4 seeds for the state playoffs.
The two No. 4 seeds will play each other, not for a right to go to state, but to round out their 10-game regular season schedule. The two No. 5 seeds will also play one another. The No. 6 seed from the North sub-region will play a team from Region 7-AAA to round out their schedule.
Cedartown will take to the field for their scrimmage game on Aug. 22 against Darlington. It is currently not known where the scrimmage game will take place. The Bulldogs first game of 2008 will be on Aug. 29 when Cedartown visits Rockmart for a non-region game.
Cedartowns first home game will be on Sept. 5 when they host Pepperell in a non-region contest. The Bulldogs host Coosa on Sept. 12 in another non-region game and they end their non-region schedule on Sept. 19 at Chattooga.
Right now the Chattooga game is tentatively scheduled, Loudermilk said. But the rest of the games are set.
On Sept. 26, Ridgeland visits Doc Ayers Field for a Region 6-AAA crossover game. After an open week on Oct. 3, the Bulldogs kick-off sub-region play on Oct. 10 by hosting Central-Carroll.
Cedartown travels to Haralson County on Oct. 17 and then they visit Cartersville on Oct. 24 in sub-region games. The Bulldogs will play their last home game of the regular season on Halloween, Oct. 31, as they host Carrollton in a sub-region contest.
On Nov. 7 the play-in playoff game will be held. All play-in games will be held at the site of the north teams, regardless of what seed they are.
Loudermilk said he is satisfied with the schedule and the fact that the Bulldogs have an equal number of home and away games.
Its going to be a tough schedule, Loudermilk said. Im excited. We were able to land four quality AA teams for our non-region games and we drew Ridgeland in our cross-over game and that should be a good one, too. It will be a good, competitive schedule for us.
