She’ll have plenty of chances to share her fondness of downtown Cedartown and promote Main Street business and hospitality now that Woods has been named as the new Main Street director.
Woods is grateful, she said, for a job that brings her back to her hometown. After working as the director of Sylvan Learning Center in Carrollton, and as the membership director of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce in Rockmart, Woods said she can’t wait to begin working with people she grew up with.
Not even a week into her new job – her first day was Jan. 3 - Woods has already begun to build new ideas that will benefit the growth and popularity of Cedartown’s Main Street district.
Finding creative ways to market Main Street to newcomers and even life-long residents of Cedartown should come naturally to Woods, who majored in marketing and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2001 from the State University of West Georgia.
She is optimistic about the suggestions she hopes to receive from the general public. “We have different committees that deal with design and economic development within the downtown area, but anyone that has an idea on how to improve Main Street should definitely come by and talk with me,” Woods said.
In the future, Main Street will hopefully attract residents from other towns, Woods comments. “I’d like to see a few restaurants that appeal to younger adults,” she said. “We’d like to see them come into our town.”
Woods currently lives in Carrollton with her husband Chad, and she says that the lengthy commute from home to office will not affect her after-hours involvement with the downtown community.
“I’ll be here anytime I need to be here,” Woods said. “I’m really looking forward to getting to work with everyone involved in the Main Street area.”
Woods is a 1997 graduate of Cedartown High School. She is the daughter of Rodney and Jan Harrison and is the sister of Kent Harrison.
