A stabbing in Aragon late Tuesday night put one man in a Rome hospital and another man on the run from police.

Aragon Police Chief Wayne Sanders said Brent R. Morris, 21, 1584 Old Collard Valley Road, Aragon, suffered stab wounds to his head, neck and shoulder. Sanders described the wounds as serious and potentially life threatening.

The attack occurred around midnight at a residence at 87 Oak St., Aragon.

Morris was rushed to the intensive care unit of Floyd Medical Center. He has since been released.

Charged in the stabbing is Ricky Lee Messik, 41, of 87 Oak St., Aragon. Sanders said arrest warrants have been issued charging Messik with aggravated assault and battery.

Messik reportedly fled the scene and as of 10:15 a.m.. police had not been able to contact him.

“He’s on the run,” Sanders said.

According to the Aragon Police Department incident report:

Police were dispatched to 46 Walnut St. in response to a stabbing. The victim was found sitting at a kitchen table and was “bleeding very heavily from four to five large and severe cuts to his head, neck and shoulder,” reporting officer Jason Purcell said.

All of the wounds were to the left rear of Morris’ body and the wounds appeared to have been caused by a broken bottle used as a weapon, according to the report.

According to the report, Morris was able to provide few details – only that he had been stabbed by Messik at the nearby 86 Oak St. address, that he had run to the neighboring residence for help and that Messik had fled the scene.

Purcell went to the incident address and spoke to a witness, Dianne Bellew. Purcell found blood on the floor of a bedroom at 87 Oak St., along with broken vases and bottles.

Purcell noted a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana at the incident location. Bellew reportedly told Purcell that they had all been drinking and smoking marijuana.

Bellew said she and Messik were asleep and awoke to find Morris standing over them. Morris was told repeatedly to leave or lay down, according to the report.

An argument developed and then became a fight between Morris and Messik with broken bottles used as weapons, according to the report.

Morris managed to get away and run to the neighbors. Messik reportedly was seen running down an alley.
