A Cedartown man was charged with drug possession and with stolen property on March 19.

From reports:

Eugene Coleman, 63, of 102 Lankford Ave., was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and with keeping a disorderly house.

Cedartown Police were contacted by the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, which had a search warrant in reference to a stolen chainsaw at Coleman’s residence.

After arriving at the house and notifying Coleman, who was walking out the front door, of the search warrant, he turned his back on officers and began walking back inside the residence.

Officer Anthony Bowman reported that Coleman refused to stop, at which point he was pushed against a kitchen counter.

After Coleman was handcuffed, a knife was located in his pants pocket, as well as a baggie containing suspected marijuana and a bottle containing suspected crack cocaine. Close to $1500 was found in Coleman’s wallet.

During a further search of the house and surrounding area, officers found chainsaws, including the one reported as stolen, as well as several stereos, microwaves, shotguns and toolkits.

A search of Coleman’s bedroom revealed a monitor connected to an outside camera, which showed officers’ approach to the house.

Large amounts of liquor and beer were also found, in what Bowman reported could have been used in a possible bootleg operation.

Coleman was taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Obstruction

A Cedartown High School student was arrested on March 22 after failing to comply with officers.

According to reports:

Kevin Rashaed Caruthers, 18, 837 Cleo St., was charged with obstruction and disruption/interference of public school.

Cpl. Michael McGee responded to Cedartown High School, 167 Frank Lott Dr., in reference to a 911 hang-up.

Upon arrival, McGee spoke with the principal who stated that a student was in violation of school policy with a cell phone he would not take out of his pocket.

Caruthers reportedly refused orders from police to empty his pockets. Police then asked Caruthers to stand up and put his hands on his desk so that he could check for weapons, to which he also refused.

McGee then grabbed the subject by his left arm and attempted to place his arms behind his back.

Caruthers began resisting McGee, forcing other officers to assist in restraining the subject.

As he was being escorted out of the building, Caruthers again tried to pull away from officers.

After getting the subject back under control, he was transported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, where he awaits bond.
