The recent redistricting by a federal court dismantled State House District 18 and placed Heath in a district with fellow Republican Representative and good friend Howard Maxwell.
Heath, known across west Georgia and the entire state for his successful campaign to unseat legendary House Speaker Tom Murphy, announced his intentions from the House floor after Senator Nathan Dean announced his retirement from the State Senate.
Said Heath, “It has been my great honor to serve in the State House of Representatives. The recent redistricting has forced many of us to make difficult decisions. Senator Nathan Dean has been a dedicated servant of the people and, with his retirement, west Georgia needs bold leadership in the State Senate. I have never had a desire for higher office, but I do have a desire to serve and feel I can best serve the people of Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties, and now the people of Bartow County in the State Senate.”
Heath filed his official papers and immediately contributed $75,000 to his Senate campaign in personal funds.
His campaign will receive strong support from Republican leaders from across the state. Heath received the unanimous support of the House Republican caucus.
