On Saturday, March 20 Cedartown High School hosted the 2004 Cedartown Track/Field Invitational. Cedartown along with Haralson County, Pepperell, Salem, Armuchee, and Darlington competed at the invitational.

The Salem Seminoles, who reign from Region 8-AAAA, won the Invitational. Cedartown’s boys finished second place and the Cedartown girl’s finished in fifth place.

Cedartown, who is coached by Janet Jolly, Alex Roberts, and Jeff Hunnicutt, had two athletes place in first place.

Courtney Martin won first place in the long jump while Nick Diamond took first place in the shot put.

Also doing well for Cedartown was Maria Addison (second place in the 300 meter hurdles), Khalefa King (third place in the 400 meter), Jake Addison (second place in the triple jump and second place in the 1600 meter), and Casey Garmon (third place in the 110 meter hurdles).

The Cedartown Track and Field team returns to action today when they host Villa Rica and Cartersville.

BASEBALL

The Cedartown Bulldog’s entered last weekend’s three game stretch with a .500 record of 3-3. However, the Bulldogs dropped all three games and now sit at 3-6 going into Region 6-AAA play Monday against Cass (6-3, 0-0).

The good news for Cedartown is that all six of those losses have came to teams from higher classifications. Woodland, a playoff contender in Region 7-AAAA was the catalyst for Cedartown’s losing streak.

On Saturday, March 20 the Wildcats defeated Cedartown 7-0. During the win, pitcher Nathan Vinyard one hit the Bulldogs.

The hard throwing left-handed Vinyard had a no-hitter through 5 and 2/3 innings before Brett Lane singled for Cedartown’s only hit. Vinyard pitched the complete game shutout allowing one hit while striking out 10.

On Monday, March 22 the Wildcats of Woodland High erupted for 11 runs as they downed Cedartown 11-1. The other loss during the three-game losing streak occurred on Friday, March 19 when Hiram (also from Region 7-AAAA) defeated Cedartown 6-3.

The Bulldogs, who have not lost a game to a team from the AAA classification, will return to action Monday when they travel to Bartow County to face the upstart Cass Colonels.

Cedartown continues region play on Wednesday, March 31 when they host Villa Rica at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs close out the week on Friday, April 2 when they travel to Carrollton to face the Central-Carroll Lions at 5:30.

SOCCER

The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs (5-1, 0-1) won their second straight game last Saturday as they dismantled Rockmart 7-1.

Cedartown, who has scored 25 goals in six games this season, returns to action today when they travel to Villa Rica to face the Lady Wildcats in a Region 6-AAA encounter.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Villa Rica 3-2 earlier this season in a non-region game. The Lady Wildcats have not won a game since that loss.
