Two Georgia teenagers wanted for allegedly stealing a Franklin County man’s Ford Ranger at gunpoint were arrested in Lexington, Ky., on Friday after trying to bum a ride from a plainclothes officer, police said.

Jesseca Renee Williamson of Forsyth and Ryan Scott McCrickard of Cedartown, both 16, were apprehended about noon after a brief scuffle, said Lt. James Curless of the Lexington Police Department.

They were in good condition, he said, and investigators had not found any firearms as of Friday. The teenagers are being held at a juvenile detention center in Lexington until Monday, when a hearing will determine extradition, Curless said.

Williamson and McCrickard had been missing since the weekend, reportedly breaking into a Carnesville home about midnight Sunday wielding a firearm and stealing the homeowner’s pickup.

McCrickard was out on bail after being charged with the 2003 murder of a Rockmart man, and a Levi’s Alert was issued for the two Sunday night as authorities theorized that Williamson might have been kidnapped.

Investigators repealed the alert Monday and issued warrants charging both teenagers with the home invasion.

On Friday, Curless said a Lexington police officer found the truck abandoned in an alleyway and had it towed.

After discovering the vehicle was linked to the missing teens, a sergeant was inspecting the pickup at the tow yard when the two teenagers approached him, Curless said.

“They started asking if he could give them a ride,” Curless said. “(McCrickard) gave the officer his real name.”

The sergeant called for backup and arrested the teenagers, who struggled at first, Curless said.

“It appeared they might have been here for a day or two, but I think they were just passing through,” he said.

The teens were not charged with resisting arrest but face charges of armed robbery, theft by taking and burglary, Franklin County Sheriff’s officials said.

McCrickard and Williamson had met while at an Atlanta drug-treatment center and started their trek to Kentucky only days after being released from the facility.

Released last December from the Polk County Jail on a $50,000 bail, McCrickard is charged with the murder of William Lucas, 51. On July 27, 2003, police said, McCrickard entered Lucas’ home before 1 a.m., crept into his bedroom and shot him in the head with a .357 Magnum while he slept.
