Commissioners were considering a postponement to next week due to Monday's extensive storm damage through the area and continuing power outages. However, commissioners decided to move ahead with the scheduled meeting, in part, because out-of-town guests are scheduled to speak.
Among the special presentations tonight will be the family of Judy Jernigan, 59, of 166 N. Furnace St., Cedartown. Jernigan was killed in a March 9 fire that damaged her home and also burned a 5-year-old girl.
Other delegations on the agenda include:
- Sara and Lewis Darden, Darden Properties, need for a contractor license to work on rental property;
- The Rev. Sidney Ford, Turner Street Recreation Center;
- David and Marla Frasier, Young's Grove Baptist Church, requesting the use of Peek Park for a festival. "Life Spark - Jesus in the Park" is to be held 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, May 15.
Other city business includes the following proclamations:
- April 2009 as Parkinson's Awareness Month;
- April 17 as Jewell Shackelford Day in recognition of her 90th birthday;
- May 9 as National Food Drive Day, in support of postal carriers for the 17th Annual Food Drive.
