Rockmart (5-1) will enter their game against undefeated Darlington (5-0) having shutout their previous opponent. It was Rockmart’s first shutout of the season.
In their last contest, the Yellow Jackets blanked Model 5-0. Darlington also won their last game by a shutout, beating Cartersville 9-0.
“On the mound we have been led by a pair of seventh graders in Avery Wilkes and Avery Allen,” Rockmart head coach Archie Scott said. “Both have had strong outings.”
Scott also noted that Jake Brown, Cal Fuller, Brady Smith, Tyler Hembree and Nick Tomlin have spent time on the mound this season as well.
Offensively, Morgan Sims, Cam Jones, Dawson Sanders and Wilkes are all batting over .500 for the Yellow Jackets.
“We have four games remaining before tournament action starts and we are in position to obtain a good seed for the tournament,” Scott said.
Scott knows that Friday’s game against Darlington will go a long way in determining what seed the Yellow Jackets get.
“We will be facing a tough Darlington team on Friday at 7 p.m. at North Floyd Park,” Scott said.
