A spring-like storm system has the potential to produce severe storms this afternoon and evening across much of the area, according to Randy Lacey, Polk County's public safety director. Some parts of Polk County could see large hail up to golfball size as well as damaging wind and isolated tornados can't be ruled out either, he said.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Polk County, along with most of northwest Georgia until 9 p.m.
This means conditions are favorable for storms and residents should take precaution and stay alert in regard to changing weather conditions.
