According to Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome, the driver, identified as 50-year-old Darrell Fenley, entered into his 2000 Ford Explorer at Grand's Food Store on Main Street Friday a little after 5 p.m. and "immediately slumped over."
Newsome said that witnesses stated that Fenley accelerated and that he was unable to control the SUV.
Fenley struck a 2005 Nissan Altima occupied by two individuals that was also in the parking lot. They were not injured.
After hitting the Altima, Fenley's SUV continued through the parking lot, hitting a chain link fence and crashing into the side of a white brick structure at 810 S. Main St. The structure was the former office of Cedartown doctor Ben Anderson.
Newsome said Fenley was airlifted to an area hospital, though he wasn't sure which one. There is no word on his condition at this time.
