Highlighting the 2012 event is the inclusion of the Rockmart Administrative Building.
This historical building was rebuilt around 1940 after fires that destroyed the original Piedmont Institute and later the Rockmart High School. Renovation of this building was completed in December 2009 and displays many historic and architectural features from the original structure. Attention to detail has also gone into “decking the halls” of this historic building.
The Cultural Arts Center, which is part of the Municipal Complex, is the home of the Rockmart Civic Arts Commission. The Cultural Arts Center has an amazing Art Gallery and plenty of class space for lessons in all disciplines of the arts. Currently being showcased in the Gallery is the “Holiday Gift Show”, which will be part of the tour.
The Rockmart Library is the latest building in the Municipal Complex to be renovated. It is not only a state of the art library but has also been renovated using the same attention to detail as the other buildings. The fireplace - made of Rockmart slate - is a must see during this Christmas season.
RBA members will be located in the City Council Chambers in the Administrative Building. Tour participants can purchase tickets ($15.00) for the shuttles, which can be boarded in the parking lot in front of the complex.
The home of Sam and Danita Elrod, 300 Church Street, will also be featured during the tour.
It was erected more than 100 years ago. The two story, four bedroom home has a rocking chair front porch and a screened-in back porch. There are four fireplaces in the home with beautiful mantles, as well as claw foot bathtubs in two of the four bathrooms.
The owners said the home is lovely any time of year, but is especially beautiful in its holiday finery!
Only live decorations are used from Frasier Fir Christmas trees, to handmade live wreaths and gorgeous poinsettias.
“You are welcome to enjoy this home built in a simpler time, decorated beautifully, yet simply,” Sam and Danita said.
