The Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia’s Cedartown Unit will hold its annual Boys and Girls Club Week festivities next week.

The week will be utilized by the Boys and Girls Club to not only showcase its programs, facilities, and trained staff, but is also an effort to significantly raise community awareness of the organization and the many benefits that are offered.

Monday, March 23 will officially kick off the weeklong celebration, and the Boys and Girls Club would like to extend a very special invitation to recognize and commemorate the special relationship that exists between grandparents and grandchildren. Activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, or simply playing in our gym or game room, are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will run until 8 p.m.

Tuesday night will be the regularly scheduled Teen Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Teen Night will provide the opportunity for teens throughout the city to participate in Playstation game play, pool tournaments, board games, or basketball.

Thursday will be the highlight of the week’s activities with an Open House scheduled to begin at 6:30 in the evening and last until 8 p.m. During this time educators, parents, and anyone curious as to the day-to-day functions of the Boys and Girls Club will have the opportunity to tour the facilities, ask questions about programs, and even enroll for membership or volunteer status.

Friday March 27 will be a very special night as the Boys and Girls Club will host a Family Night In. All family members are invited to come with their children and bring a sack lunch or dinner to settle down and watch a free movie on the gym wall. Concessions will also be available. Admission to all of these events is free and participants do not have to be members to participate.

Throughout the week, Scholastic will also be sponsoring a Book Fair where children in the community will not only have the chance to enlarge their own personal libraries, but parents and citizens alike will have the opportunity to buy and donate books to the Boys and Girls Club’s Library.

The Boys & Girls Club is located at 321 E Queen St., in Cedartown, straight down from Wendy’s restaurant. They are open to children ages five to 18, weekdays after school until 6 p.m.

Summer programs are slated to begin in June and will include many opportunities for the youth of the community. There is a small fee for registration and weekly attendance, but assistance is available to those who qualify.

All teens may attend free of charge.
