Cedartown whitewashed Coosa 38-0 on Sept. 6 and then blanked Armuchee 12-0 on Sept. 11. While the young Bulldogs haven’t shut out any opponent since those first two games, they have won each time out.
On Sept. 18, Cedartown defeated their Polk County rivals Rockmart 24-6.
“We played well offensively and defensively,” head coach Bob Tracy said.
A week later, Sept. 25, Cedartown played their most exciting game of the season, pulling out an 18-12 win over Pepperell in double overtime.
“We played one of the most physical middle school football games that I have ever witnessed,” Tracy said. “Walker Barrow scored the only touchdown during regulation.”
With 21 seconds to go in the game, Pepperell drove down the field and scored to tie the contest. Their extra point was no good, sending the game into overtime.
Pepperell scored on their fourth play of overtime, but against the extra point was no good. Cedartown responded by scoring on their first overtime play and after their conversion attempt failed, the two teams went into double overtime tied at 12.
In the second extra period, Cedartown again scored on the first play to go ahead 18-12. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the Bulldogs ahead only by six.
Cedartown’s defense would then not allow Pepperell to score on any of their four plays, giving the Bulldogs a tough victory.
On Oct. 2, the middle school team celebrated Homecoming and won the game over Chattooga 48-18.
“We played well offensively and defensively,” Tracy said. “We played a better offensive game. Lee Sisson proved very valuable by leading our offense. He had a very good day, making good reads and throwing the football. Walker Barrow, Tyler Blalock, Quan Neal and Keshun Kent all had great touchdown runs.”
The undefeated Bulldogs will host Model on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4:45 p.m. Cedartown will visit Darlington on Oct. 16 to end the regular season.
The top two teams in the league will play for the league championship on Oct. 23.
