A Rockmart man injured in a tractor accident on Georgia Highway 278 last week sustained serious injuries, but will recover, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP) officials.

The woman who struck him could face a citation, but officials said that hasn’t been determined.

According to updated GSP reports, both Olivia McVadon of Cedartown and Charles E. Mears of Rockmart were driving west in the right lane of the highway Friday morning.

McVadon was driving her 2004 Hyundai Sonata and Mears was driving his 1988 John Deer tractor with a trailer attached to the back, reports said.

McVadon told troopers she turned to answer a question from her daughter, who was a passenger in the backseat, and struck the trailer.

McVadon’s vehicle exited and stopped on the north shoulder of the highway, reports said.

The collision caused Mears to fall of his tractor. The tractor and trailer continued to travel back across the road until the unit hit a ditch.

Reports state the ditch impact separated the two pieces with the trailer continuing on before it stopped on the north side of the road.

Mears was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
