Rockmart Middle School softball team looks to overcome sluggish start

After a slow start, the Rockmart Middle School Lady Jackets fast-pitch softball team seems to be coming together.

After competing in a preseason tournament, the young Lady Jackets opened the regular season on Aug. 31 against Polk County rival Cedartown. Rockmart lost that game by the score of 9-6.

On Sept. 8, the Lady Jackets visited Cedartown for a doubleheader. Rockmart lost game one, 11-2, before coming back to win game two, 15-14.

The Lady Jackets play Chattooga on the road Thursday at 5 p.m. On Friday Rockmart will host Darlington at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Jackets will host Rome in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 10 a.m.

Rockmart will travel to Darlington on Wednesday to play the Lady Tigers at 4:30 p.m. in the final game of the regular season.

The postseason tournament will be Sept. 21-22, with the regular season league champion hosting the two-day event.

Members of the Rockmart Middle School team are Emilee Maulding, Emily Loveless, Cambree Stanley, Logan Patterson, Kayla Harris, Alexis Clanton, Kinsley Dean, Kelsey Motes, Josie McKibben, Lindsey Melton, Taylor Camp, Chelsea Womack, Jordan Brown, Autumn Tomlinson, Jada Brumbelow, Maggie Lindsey, and Kaitlyn Register.

Drew Lindsey is the head coach and Jessie Rayburn is the assistant coach.
