Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome said Norman Sensing, 19, of 814 Montgomery Ave., Cedartown was arrested this morning.
He remains in the Polk County Jail on charges of false report of a crime, obstruction and theft by taking/party to a crime, according to jail docket reports.
The theft by taking/party to a crime charge is a felony.
Newsome said they have warrants out for Sensing’s alleged accomplice.
“This is still an open investigation,” Newsome said.
Police were called to the restaurant on North Main Street just after midnight, in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 12, after Sensing reported an armed robbery.
Newsome said officers’ suspicions were immediately aroused because everything appeared quiet at the restaurant.
One officer was passing Polk Medical Center (PMC) at the time of the emergency call and arrived at Pizza Hut within 10 seconds, Newsome said.
“He said it just didn’t look right,” Newsome said.
After an initial investigation, Sensing was questioned at the police department and eventually confessed that he was part of a plan to take the money.
Newsome said around $1,800 was taken.
