The Polk County Elections office has released a list of frequently asked questions along with answers to help the community understand the rules of voting in the Republican runoff election.

When is the Primary runoff

Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012.

If I voted a Democrat ballot in the July 31 primary, may I vote in the Republican runoff on Aug. 21?

No. Since the primary runoff is a continuation of the Primary election, voters who voted in the Primary must vote the same party ballot in the runoff. There is no Democratic candidates in the runoff. A voter who voted Democrat in the primary may not vote a Republican ballot in the runoff

If I voted non-partisan in the July 31 primary, may I vote in the Republican runoff on Aug. 21?

Yes

If I did not vote at all in the July 31 Primary, may I vote in the Republican runoff? Yes

I registered to vote after July 2, 2012. May I vote in the Aug. 21 runoff?

No. The voter registration deadline for the July 21 primary and Aug. 21 primary runoff was July 2 per O.C.G.A. 21-2-224(2)

On Election Day, may I vote in any precinct I want/

No. Voters are required by state election law to vote in the precinct in which the person is registered.

Can more than one person be in the same voting booth at a time? Example: can a husband be in the same booth as his wife while voting?

No. State election law prohibits more than one person in a voting booth at the same time. In the event a voter needs assistance due to a physical disability or the elector is illiterate the Oath of Assisted Elected shall be completed included the reason why the voter requires assistance per O.C.G.A. 21-2-413(3)

Will there be early voting for the Aug. 21 runoff?

There shall be a period of early voting as soon as possibly prior to the runoff. Please monitor the Polk County elections website swilliams@polkga.com and the local media for early voting dates and times.

When will Absentee by Mail ballots be available for the Aug. 21 runoff?

Absentee by Mail ballots will be available as soon as possible. Eligible voters may apply now for an Absentee ballot. However, voters are encouraged to return voted ballots immediately to ensure delivery by the close of the polls on Aug. 21.
