The Northwest Georgia Renegades baseball team knew they had a chance to be special this season. Turns out, they were very special.

The Renegades proved to be unbeatable when healthy as they compiled a 28-2 record this season, winning the Seven Hills Classic tournament, a Dizzy Dean regular season title, and a Dizzy Dean State championship.

The year started in Rome at the Levee on March 4 in the fourth annual Seven Hills Classic tournament. The Renegades went 4-0 at the tournament, including winning the championship game 15-1 in just three innings.

Brimming with early-season confidence, the Renegades stormed through the Dizzy Dean regular season by going 12-0 and winning the championship.

Manager Gary McBryde’s team followed that by going 3-0 at the Dizzy Dean City/County Tournament at the end of the regular season to win that tournament in Rome.

Having not lost a game all season, the Renegades entered the District tournament with high expectations. However, with two pitchers out – one with an illness and one with a hurt arm – the Renegades stumbled and went 2-2 at District to finish in third place. That would be their only two losses this season.

However, with their players once again healthy, the Renegades went into the Dizzy Dean 10-and-under State Invitational tournament with 27 other teams and they fought through the competition to go 6-0 and capture the State championship.

The Renegades won the State title by beating the Eastside Titans 11-5.

Members of the team were Cleve Jordan, Sam Sanders, Brenton Pinkard, Hayden Hughes, Bryce Brown, Riley McBryde, Chase Swafford, Dekerion Jones, Ty Wilcox, Karson Moates, Markus Smith, Andruw Morris, Will Pilgrim, Dayton Leatherwood, Karter Moates, and Peyton Thorpe.
