Cedartown, winners of the Georgia Recreation and Parks (GRPA) State championship and the Dizzy Dean Georgia State championship, advanced all the way to the World Series finals undefeated before suffering two heartbreaking losses to the Texas Stampede.
Cedartown opened the World Series in Southaven, Miss. by defeating the Cullman Chaos in convincing fashion 15-0. In the winner’s bracket, Cedartown took out Pinellas Park Elite 4-3, JPRD West All-Stars 9-0, and the Texas Stampede 8-6 to advance to the finals with a 4-0 record.
Needing only one win in the championship series against the Texas Stampede, the Cedartown squad would be unable to capture that fifth and final victory. The Stampede would win game one, 9-0, forcing a game two in the double-elimination tournament.
The Texas club then clipped Cedartown 4-3 in a nailbiter to win the World Series title at Snowden Grove Park.
Despite the stinging defeat, the Cedartown team played for something that not many teams in Polk County have played for, a World Series title.
Members of the team are Jack Haney, Casey Newsome, Miles Minge, Henley Hayes, Dalton Prince, Zonterious Scofield, Bo Davis, Wesley Ragsdale, Walker Barrow, Drew Vance, and Lee Sisson.
