According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Peacthree Road Race results, 32 racers from Cedartown competed in the 43rd annual race while 27 racers from Rockmart raced.
Leading the Cedartown runners this year was Curtis Hollabaugh, a 61-year-old male, who finished in 49 minutes and 11 seconds. Janet Jolly Edwards, the Cedartown High School cross country coach, crossed the finish line in 51 minutes and 39 seconds.
Mark Hawkins ended the race in 53 minutes and 19 seconds. Alvin Benefield completed the race in 54 minutes and 39 seconds. Patrick Latham, Pastor of Second Baptist Church, crossed the finish line in 57 minutes and 52 seconds.
Other participants from Cedartown that competed at the race were Matt Foster, Stephanie Clarke, Richard Chandler, Larry Kuglar, Zach Foster, Gabriel Foster, Rodney Smith, Daniel Schabort, Richard Chandler, Edwin Ellenburg, Joe Zebeau, Ben Ball, Heather Ball, Kenneth Weatherman, James Holland, Jeff Johnson, Sarah Holland, Kaci Mobley, Stephen Mobley, Konda Dizon, Jerome Hooper, Colton Woods, Claudia Dunn, Kim Hawkins, Maggie Hawkins, Nadine Fuqua, and Jody Smith.
The top Rockmart finisher was 35-year-old Brian Cross, as he darted across the finish line in 44 minutes and 48 seconds.
Kyle McKinney was next, finishing in 48 minutes and 33 seconds. Following McKinney were Drew Lindsey (48 minutes, 50 seconds), 18-year-old Luis Rivera (48 minutes, 54 seconds), and Elizabeth Clark (49 minutes, 48 seconds).
Other racers from Rockmart this year were Josh Redmond, Melissa Register, Robert Register, Seth Little, Jonathan Key, Carol Williams, Julie McAlister, Mitchell Bozydaj, Peris Johnson, Randy Turner, Christa Cline, Sudie Gordy, Will Gilstrap, Alex Gilstrap, Tony McAlister, Lisa Jones, April Lanier, Ranunda Stanley, Shelly Wright, Mark Harrelson, Wendy Harrelson, and David Freeman.
Kenya’s Peter Kirui won the men’s division with a blistering time of 27 minutes and 37 seconds. He finished two seconds ahead of fellow countrymen Micah Kogo and Matthew Kisorio.
Ethiopia’s Mamitu Daska won the women’s division with a time of 32 minutes and 22 seconds. Kenya’s Lineth Chepkurui came in a tie for second with Risper Gesabwa, also of Kenya, with a time of 32 minutes and 23 seconds.
Cedartown’s Krige Schabort, the 2011 Peachtree Road Race winner in the wheelchair division, suffered a heartbreaking defeat this year.
Schabort came in second place after suffering a flat tire.
Aaron Gordian won the men’s wheelchair division with a time of 19 minutes and 52 seconds. Tatyana McFadden, a regular participant in the Cedartown 5K wheelchair race, won the women’s wheelchair race at the Peacthree Road Race for the third consecutive year.
McFadden finished the race in 24 minutes and 54 seconds.
The Peachtree Road Race covers 6.2 miles that takes contestants through Atlanta, finishing in Piedmont Park. Organizers say 60,000 people participated in the race this year.
