Sidney Mobley, a member of the Exchange Club of El Paso, Texas, was installed as national president in 2011 at the organization’s centennial convention in Detroit. He is a retired chief warrant officer for the U.S. Army.
During Thursday’s luncheon at Meadow Lakes Golf Club, Mobley congratulated the local club on its achievements of the past year, and predicted more accolades to come in the next year with new Cedartown club president Jennifer Hulsey at the helm.
“You’ve had a fantastic year,” Mobley praised. “You won the National Service Award this year. That means a lot. It means you put the effort in.”
Outgoing president of the Cedartown club, Tom Reilly, handed off the gavel to Hulsey after Mobley’s remarks. Hulsey is the local club’s first female president in its 85-year history.
Also recognized last Thursday were the other officers for the 2012-2013 year: Dan Riley, treasurer; and Steve Arrington, president elect. The club’s board of directors include Sam Branch and Jim Mayben.
Mobley is preparing to end his term as national president. He said he has had an eventful year, and he thanked his wife, Claresie, who also attended the luncheon, for helping keep him organized.
Also visiting last week were Buzz Wachsteter, of the Rome Exchange Club, and his wife, Paula.
About Mobley
Mobley joined the Exchange Club in 1993. Throughout his membership, he has been an active club member, chairing many committees and service projects, and served as club president in El Paso. He served several consecutive terms as southwest district director and twice as district president. For the National Exchange Club, Mobley has served on the personnel, programs of service and diversity committees, and chaired the awards committee.
Mobley’s goal has long been focused on community service and helping youth. Using his leadership skills learned in the military, he became involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He started a new troop, where he was the first Scoutmaster.
Mobley is past president of the El Paso Wings Track Club, a summer activities youth program. He is a member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.
The Mobley couple still reside in El Paso. They have five grown children, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
