He was born on Sept. 28, 1945 in Polk County to the late Troy Roland and Pearl Irene Watson Gowens.
Mr. Gowens was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was ranked CWO2. He was awarded the bronze star and the distinguished flying cross and was a pilot of the helicopter gunner ship. Mr. Gowens worked and owned Freddie’s Body Shop for 25 years and was currently the owner of Signs and More.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret G. Frawley.
He is survived by his wife, Earline Allen Gowens; sons, Greg Gowens of Carrollton, and Joe Jeffers of Cedartown; daughter, Juanita Gribble of California; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In keeping with Mr. Gowens wishes he was cremated. A memorial service was held on Sunday, Jan.27 at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 86.
