The Southern Misses, a 12-and-under team, played in the 14-and-under bracket at Canton on Saturday, May 12 and steamrolled to a tournament championship.
“We did good in the first game of the day, but our bats really got hot in the second game and continued the rest of the day,” coach Eddy Greenway said.
Blair Bedford hit an over the fence grand slam home run in the second game to really spark the Southern Misses. Tia Covington smacked a three-run home run over the fence in the same game. As a team, the Southern Misses had 29 hits, with several of those being extra base hits.
According to coaches, pitchers Maddie Bowman, Sydney Greenway, and Katherine Tracy’s pitching was on target all day. The trio combined to strike out 15 batters.
Defensively, catchers Keely Smith and Christine Bryan earned praise by throwing out players that attempted to steal a base.
“All the Southern Misses players gave us 110 percent today,” Greenway said. “All the coaches are so proud of these girls.”
