Editor's note: The Polk-Fishwrap presented each Republican primary candidate for the office of Sheriff with the same list of seven platform questions. We will feature each candidate's answers throughout the week. Check back tomorrow for the next candidate's Q&A

What is the first thing you would do once you assume the role as sheriff?

I would meet with each and every member of the sheriff’s office, review all policies and procedures and make the necessary changes.

Will you please name two things you would do to reduce the budget?

I would reduce overtime by utilizing current personnel in a more effective manner and adjusting schedules so overtime is not a part of normal operations. We will operate within our current budget with the amount of personnel that we have.

What is the one thing that the sheriff's office could do to reduce the drug problem in Polk County?

We should cooperate more with both state and federal agencies to gain access to resources that would not normally be available to us on the local level.

How would you improve efficiency within the sheriff's office?

I would reassess personnel in order to achieve the best service and protection for the citizens of Polk County and utilize the available resources in order to reduce costs.

How would you put more accountability into the general running of the sheriff's office?

We would have weekly meetings to make sure that everyone at the sheriff’s office understands their duties to the office and the public. I would also ensure that every supervisor has the adequate man power to accomplish their given tasks and that civil papers and warrants are served in a timely manner.

What is the biggest challenge you see in becoming the new sheriff and how do you plan to overcome it?

The biggest challenge I see is regaining the trust of the citizens of Polk County and bringing back standards and professionalism within the sheriff’s office. Our deputies will perform their duties in a most professional and courteous manner that is requested of by the citizens of Polk County.

What do you see as being the responsibilities of the sheriff?

The main responsibilities of the sheriff are law enforcement, the courts and the jail. The sheriff's office must execute and return the processes and orders of the courts. While the sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in the county, they should succeed in running an organized department to ensure that these laws are upheld.

Why is it taking so long to see the other candidates responses, I guess they should all have family that works for the paper.
