The Rockmart Little League nine-and-10-year-old All-Star baseball team came one win short of playing for a State championship on their own field.

Hosting the nine-and-10-year-old State tournament, Rockmart advanced out of pool play into the State semifinals before losing by one run to an undefeated Dudley Little League squad.

Rockmart, the District 1 champions, opened State play with a 11-10 win over Athens on Sunday. On Monday, the young local squad fell to Columbus 13-2, but bounced back on Tuesday to beat Richmond Hill 14-4. On Wednesday, Rockmart smoked Madison County 14-4 to end pool play with a 3-1 record and advance to the semifinals.

The semifinals featured the top two teams from the two pools. Rockmart faced Pool A winner Dudley, and lost 6-5 in a thriller.

Dudley, 5-0, will now face Columbus, 4-1, in the State championship game Friday at 7 p.m.
