A Saturday night altercation at a Polk County nightclub spilled over into a daytime shooting in Cedartown Monday afternoon that left one person hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police identified the shooting victim as Billy Joe Moody, 20, of Cedartown. Moody was taken to Atlanta Medical Center by an air ambulance helicopter. A hospital spokesperson confirmed Moody’s admission to the emergency room but could not provide any information about his status at press time.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. Monday on Jefferson Street. Police said several guns were involved, with gunfire being exchanged in the street.

Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome said two men, Labrent Walker, 26, and Demetrius Brown, 29, both of Cedartown, were in police custody with charges pending. Both men were arrested within a few hours of the shooting at a Park Street apartment.

Newsome said Monday’s shooting has roots in a fight that occurred late Saturday night at the Stardust Lounge, a Polk County nightclub located on Hutto Road. Moody reportedly had an altercation of some sort with Walker.

Police believe Walker and Brown went to Jefferson Street Monday afternoon looking for Moody.

A revolver and a 9mm semi-automatic weapon reportedly were recovered on Jefferson Street after the shooting.

*Update: According to officials, both Walker and Moody were charged with aggravated assault on Tuesday. (Updated July 5)
