Almost 300 children participated along with family and friends at the annual Aragon Kid’s Day on Saturday, June 2.

According to organizers, the early morning felt more like October than June and children quickly gathered at the mill pond adjacent to the old Aragon Mill to test their fishing skills. The fishing event was just part of the festivities held on Aragon Kid’s Day.

The event officially started at 10 a.m. when Mayor Ken Suffridge proclaimed Morgan Denise Esteban as Aragon’s “Mayor of the Day”.

Esteban, who lives in Aragon, is a fifth grader at Eastside Elementary School. She took over duties as Mayor by telling the crowd to “catch some fish”.

Prizes totaling over thirty five hundred dollars ($3,500) were passed out throughout the day.

Volunteers also served grilled hot dogs and cotton candy for the participants.

The Aragon Masonic Davitte Lodge No. 513 has been the sponsor for the past 21 years, according to organizers. Several volunteers from the Lodge participated as well as volunteers from the city of Aragon, Redmond EMS and others.
