ATLANTA — Georgia's attorney general has added birth documents to a list of identification documents government agencies in the state can accept for certain transactions.

Last year's state law targeting illegal immigration tasked the attorney general with establishing the list by Aug. 1 of last year and updating it annually. The new list was posted online Tuesday.

Added to the list were three documents issued by the U.S. State Department: certification of report of birth, certification of report of birth abroad, and consular report of birth abroad. Also added was an original or certified copy of a birth certificate bearing an official seal and issued by a state, county, municipal authority or territory of the U.S.

The law requires applicants for public benefits to provide at least one "secure and verifiable" document.
