Cedartown High School graduate Demetrius Green, a standout linebacker at Lenoir-Rhyne University, will always be able to look back and know that he participated in something special as a college senior.

That’s because for the first time in 50 years, Lenoir-Rhyne is playing a postseason football game. It will be the Bears first playoff game as a member of NCAA Division II.

Lenoir-Rhyne, the 2012 South Atlantic Conference champions, are 8-2 on the season and will be the No. 3 seed in Super Region No. 2. The Bears will open play at home against No. 6 seeded Fort Valley State (8-3).

Green leads the team in tackles with 86. He also has one sack, three-and-a-half tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

Green was a chosen as a member of the South Atlantic Conference preseason All-Conference team as well as being named a preseason All-American.

Lenoir-Rhyne, winners of seven straight, won the conference championship by beating Catawba 44-14 last Saturday. The Bears have now won back-to-back conference titles.

If Lenoir-Rhyne beats Fort Valley State they will advance into round two to play Carson-Newman (8-2) on Nov. 24 in Jefferson City, Tenn.
