CASA of Polk and Haralson Inc. hosted their annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Stone Creek Inn on Oct. 14, 2012.

The guest speaker was a former foster child who spoke to the group offering words of encouragement for all their efforts and the importance of understanding the needs and wishes of the children.

CASA volunteers and their families were treated to a BBQ lunch at Stone Creek Inn in Rockmart.

Debra Nelson, proprietor of the Inn donated the use of the facility in appreciation to the advocates, for their tireless efforts on behalf of foster children in Polk and Haralson Counties.

The 2012 recipient of the “Volunteer of the Year” award went to George Healey. Healey has been with the program for over twelve years. He represented and advocated for five children during the past year.

Volunteer Coordinator, Chase Watterson presented the award and shared how Healey brings his compassion, dependability and dedication to each child he provides a voice for.

Healey has also been nominated for the Georgia CASA- Karen Sibley Volunteer of the Year Award for making significant contributions in helping abused and neglected children.
